Being More Successful

DearJames,

I have always tried to be supportive and help my husband work at his own pace when achieving goals. It seems as if his close cousins recent success has given him some possible motivation to strive for more.

I am wondering if I should encourage him to go back to school, get another position within the same company, or get another position outside his current company. Or better yet, will he always be happy and satisfied with not being more successful.

Sara

Dear Being More Successful,

The measure of any human being is far more than their perceived successes or failures; rather, it lies in their character.

“Your character is your fate.”

Being more successful is only beneficial to your husband if the means and measures by which he attains it is satisfying to his soul. Anything less would be counter-intuitive to his nature, his wellbeing, and thus potentially detrimental and harmful to him and others.

Gauge the purity of your intentions when seeking to encourage him. If your intentions are pure of heart and devoid of any ulterior motive or attachment to a particular outcome or result, then proceed accordingly. However, if they are not, stop to reflect on whose happiness or success you seek to encourage and attain.

You fell in love with and married this man for a reason. Look to remember those reasons so you see in him now, that which you saw in him then.

Perception is reality, and while some souls are born leaders and achievers, others achieve that same state of perceived accomplishment and elevation through quiet, understated fortitude, resilience, and inner peace and happiness.

One is not better than the other, they are simply different paths of expression and experience.

You need only ask yourself this: Is it not better to be rich in heart, character and deed, than to be poor in false judgment, identity and purpose?

That should allow making supportive decisions all the more clear and effortless, which in turn makes for an incredibly successful marriage/partnership.

Wishing you both much continued success.
