Which Direction Do I go

DearJames,

The Universe appears to be rocking my boat again. I feel as though I’m at a crossroad and am looking for reassurance. Which direction do I go?

Dear Which Direction Do I Go,

UP, you always want to be evolving and ascending upward.

If it feels like you are spiraling downward, pump the breaks long enough to safely pull over, rest, and gather your senses.

Marriage is not a casual one-day event, it is something you choose every moment of every day.

It requires a great deal of give and take or put another way, balance.

If the marriage is out of balance, each of you is accountable, and must “Commit to Communicate.”

This single act of failing to communicate is responsible for most misunderstandings, breakups, separations, and divorces.

The misperception that “I tell him or her what I don’t like, and they fail to change,” is communicating is a falsehood.

Real Communication involves Listening, not Dictating.

This lost art of listening from a place of non-judgment is sorely in need of use and resurrection.

The other requisite elements are Care, Compassion, Consideration, Compromise, and Consistency.

Without The Five C’s, ones marriage is destined to encounter and experience the rocky road to Splitsville.

Most everyone enters marriage optimistically and its each person’s responsibility to maintain that optimism, faith, and level of commitment.

However, if in your heart of hearts, you feel as though you have given it your best shot, do not belabor the inevitable.

Simply communicate this truth, lovingly, while once again invoking The Five C’s.

In the end, it’s not why you leave but how you leave that matters.

It sets the tone for all your future communications not to mention demonstrating the depth of your care and character.

At this crossroad in time, choose the high road no matter the destination.

Doing so ensures a more consciously aware, expansive, enlightened, You.
