Struggle With Mental Illness

DearJames,

Why did I choose for this lifetime to be a struggle with mental illness? And how can I make sure it doesn’t happen again?

Dear Struggle With Mental Illness,

In every lifetime, well in advance of our arrival, our soul plans out what will most benefit us in our overall soul growth and evolution.

From karmic relationships and the clearing and rebalancing of karma to the evolution required to gain greater ascension, the soul meticulously crafts and curates every facet of its upcoming journey through time and space, its co-created experience as a human incarnation of the divine. The only caveat is how free will affects each individual and their respective choices and experiences.

The major highlights of your life’s journey are chosen by the soul. Mapped out and predestined if-you-will. Much like making a journey by car from one coast to the other, certain aspects of the journey are known, others unknown.

Looking at the journey in totality, you know your departure and arrival locations. You know the preferred route to reach your destination. You most likely are aware of certain goals and destinations you wish to meet, stay at, and experience along the way. You know the distance you must travel and approximately how long it will take you to arrive.

What you don’t know is what is unforeseen. The quote by John Lennon says it all: “life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” What unexpected, unforeseen elements and issues might you encounter. Every choice you make is a representation of free will. Every attempt to avoid, delay, ignore, negotiate, procrastinate, deviate, and challenge your course, your route, impacts your journey.

Aligning your will with your soul’s will is paramount in experiencing a greater path of peace.

Mental health challenges play a major role in the soul’s development, human experience, and karmic cleansing-rebalancing. They are rooted in a multitude of factors and reasons on a soul level. Regardless of the factors and reasons, the soul is very much aware of the use and presence of mental health issues to achieve its intended outcome, evolutionary growth, transcendence, and ascension.

There are no mistakes in life. Everything is purposeful and serves a purpose. All is divine and neutral. Thus, it is incumbent upon each of us to pierce the veil of illusion, to see beyond the perceived deficiency or limitation, to receive the inherent gifts contained within. And yes, mental health struggles can be exceedingly challenging. That said, your soul chose this experience for a reason; allow your ego-mind-personality to see and understand the reasons why and make peace with it.

The purpose is not to suffer but rather overcome suffering. Souls also play roles for the benefit of other souls. Thus, it is equally possible that one’s mental health challenges were divinely designed, orchestrated, and agreed upon for the growth and benefit of both self and others. Remember, all of creation is masterfully interwoven, purposeful, and divine and neutral. Karma, which is the balance of cause and effect based on one’s actions in this lifetime and others also plays a prominent role.

Thus, your struggle with mental illness is present to teach you and most likely others, lessons cloaked in their opposite. It is only our perception about a life experience that colors or defines it as positive or negative. Beyond every judgment lies a deeper, hidden truth, as our life experiences are meant to refine us not define us.

Realize that this is not about making sure it doesn’t happen again, but rather in seeing and coming to terms with why your soul chose it in the first place. What opportunity does your mental illness in this lifetime offer you and others beyond challenge? What does the challenge represent in its opposite? What obscured gifts are hidden just below the surface? What peace might be achieved by seeing it from a whole new perspective? From a place of purposeful orchestration, strength, and empowerment versus burden or curse?

Make no mistake, mental health issues are one of life’s most challenging aspects, while also being one of the souls’ greatest tools and teachers. It demonstrates vividly where we as a whole, both the individual and the greater whole, are out of balance, harmony, unity, and sync with our divine oneness, and not just in this lifetime, but cumulatively.

There are no one-size fits all when it comes to addressing mental health wellness, as each person’s journey is unique. The importance however is on seeking all possible treatment options and lifestyle remedies so the cumulative efforts may assist one to heal and find greater peace. No shame. No blame. No stigmas. Just an earnest pursuit of a better life.

Collectively, we the people are responsible to address and correct the root cause(s) of the imbalances we experience. Society must be the answer it seeks. What can you do in this lifetime to positively affect the next? Listen to and lead with your soul! Actively seek out professional assistance, engage proven methods that calm the mind, soothe the body, and restore greater balance, harmony, and wellbeing.

Practice daily meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, and other physical activities that increase endorphins while positively altering your overall physiology. Make a lifestyle change by incorporating better dietary choices. We are what we eat. Take soothing baths infused with honey, milk, and essential oils of lavender, rose, citrus, and rosemary. Incorporate westernized medicine, and weekly therapy while also investigating alternative, holistic remedies.

And do not hesitate for a moment to reach out and seek help whenever you are in need. There is no shame in openly acknowledging your mental health struggles. In fact, you may just find it is exactly that unapologetic, pure, raw approach and admission that liberates and empowers you the most, leading you to greater discoveries, truths, and healing.

Ultimately, you are whole and complete, perfect, and divine, irrespective of any perceived deficiency. You are loved and are love. Believe this always, knowing you will find your way. Each step is a step toward achieving your soul’s purpose.
