Personal Journey

DearJames,

I am an artist (Actor/Musician) living in Nashville Tn. I have been working for the past twenty years toward a sustainable career in music. In this past year, many unforeseen opportunities have opened for me in acting and it is something that has brought me joy and “knowing” in a very surprising way.

I have had the support of my wife for the past sixteen years and now our 7-yr old twins. Although I move forward with courage and confidence, the financial toll this path has taken on my family and the corresponding issues that arise from it are severe. This has been going on for years, however, the acute nature of the present circumstance is overwhelming at times and leaves me confused as to my focus.

Please help guide my thoughts/actions through this present time to best take care of my family while staying true to my path. I have tremendous faith and confidence and need to take care of and provide for my family.

I feel they deserve more than I am providing through my personal journey.

Dear Personal Journey,

They say, “timing is everything” and in many instances that idiom holds true.

The one thing they don’t tell you is how much time things in the “real world” can take to manifest.

Youthful exuberance has a way of coloring our future.

It gets us to believe that we can accomplish anything or better yet everything just in the way we dreamed and desired it to be.

With this youthful folly as our guide we, both the couple and the individuals, commit to a path of glory and triumph.

Along the way, the bloom begins to fall off the rose as the reality of materializing our hopes, dreams, desires, and wishes takes a considerable amount more time, energy, resources, commitment, and focus than we ever realized.

Add to that the never-ending belief that we can do and be more and we consciously or unconsciously add to our already overburdened selves.

Out of the desire to maintain harmony and happiness we add elements to our lives without ever altering the existing landscape of our path, our journey.

We are then squeezed even harder when the added burdens of life, no matter how purposeful and joyful they are, bring to light the overall discrepancies and deficiencies in our planning and plan or the lack thereof.

We are further torn when just around the corner is the perceived payoff, we have struggled for so long to attain colliding with the desperation and toll it has taken on all involved in getting there.

Oh, life can be so cruel and yet so worthy of all our deepest desires and efforts.

What’s needed here is simply a new and improved plan – modified way forward.

Securing an occupation in a field that further supports or even promotes the overall goal becomes life sustaining on multiple fronts.

Surrendering to the reality that you may just achieve your ultimate goal via a path you never considered or considered and discarded is also liberating.

What’s truly meant to be will be, you just have to TRUST while getting out of your own way so the Universe may lead.

Control is the ultimate culprit here and the letting go of it your savior.

Focus on what’s best for everyone involved knowing your “big break” will come exactly when and how it’s meant to.

Exactly when you aren’t forcing it to happen at the expense of self, spouse, family, and others.

Dream a Little Dream of Me.
