In traditions like Buddhism, unexamined craving (tanha) is identified as the root of human suffering because we cling to transient things. Yet, modern spiritual teachings emphasize that becoming “desireless” doesn’t mean suppressing your basic human needs; rather, it means observing your cravings without letting them rule your peace or warp your perception.

The word desire etymologically breaks down from the Latin roots de (of) and sire (father) literally translating to “Of the Father”. In many theological and mystical views, this means your truest longings originate from the Divine, acting as an echo of creation planted deep inside your heart.”
