Will This Happen
- BREAKUP/SEPARATION/DIVORCE
- ADDICTION
- PAST/FUTURE
DearJames,
I have had problems with alcohol and Jurgen broke up with me and says he cannot continue with our relationship, but he is very in love with me. I too am very in love with him and have quit drinking. I want to regain the beautiful loving relationship and I ask and pray this will happen. Will this happen? Thank you.
Willow
Dear Will This Happen,
Trust is paramount in any relationship and when trust is strained or broken, it takes a lot of time and continued proving of oneself to ever gain it back, presuming it ever does come back. A clean slate on the other hand represents a new beginning.
In your case, it’s not about gaining back this loving relationship, for it will never be what it was before, and you don’t want it to be; you want it to be something greater, stronger, better…New.
And the only way that is going to happen is for you to earnestly address your addiction to alcohol and its underlying causes.
You must do this for YOU and YOU alone. To embark on this journey of self-discovery and repair based upon the hope and desire that you reconcile the past, leaves you exactly there…in the past.
Your future can and will be bright and brilliant by focusing on the present while learning from the past. Actions speak louder than words and here your actions need to demonstrate your commitment to love of self. By learning to love yourself fully, you overcome your dependence on alcohol.
To simply stop drinking, without addressing the underlying issues that caused you to abuse alcohol in the first place, leaves both of you vulnerable to relapses, past behaviors and abuses, and repetitive self-inflicted pain and denial.
Give yourself this gift knowing that you will forever be a better person regardless of whether you and this love ever embark on a new story together. The gift is eternal, the relationship dependent upon many factors.
Focus on being the best you, you can possibly be, and leave the rest up to fate.
Remember, when one door shuts, another opens. Let it be a mystery as to who walks through that new door…a completely new person or a completely new Jurgen.
