My Ideal Career

DearJames,

Are you able to tell me what I should be doing with my life?

At nearly 50, I still have not established myself professionally and cannot hold even a “menial” job. I have tried many different paths, including law, linguistics, teaching, hospitality, and cannot seem to find success in anything.

I don’t know whether it is because of self-sabotage, karmic debt, bipolar depression, but I am hanging on by a thread. My parents want me to go on welfare or disability, but I don’t want to give up just yet.

Blessings from Toronto,

Angalique

Dear My Ideal Career,

Finding success is a matter of applying oneself in the right field, endeavor, relationship etc., but more importantly it’s in recognizing the wrong ones.  This too is a form of success and the greater one at that.

Spending a lifetime in the wrong field, career, relationship, etc. is catastrophic to ones soul.  It eats away at your very core, draining you of one of life’s greatest gifts…Happiness.

I sense you’ve spent a lot of time in your life “making up for” or “trying to be something” you are not.  In that, what I mean to say is that by having a bipolar disorder, you have challenged yourself in very demanding technical fields and/or fields that are not well suited for you, as a way of proving your value or worth.

By having made these choices, for the wrong reasons, success as society measures it has eluded you.  You are by your very nature a being of pure love, light, and energy, you need not prove anything, other than a commitment to loving yourself just as you are.

You were not born into this lifetime to “give up.”  You chose it so that you could experience these life challenges and overcome or transcend them, so they no longer have a diminishing hold upon you.  This is the karma effect, if-you-will.

In finding your way forward, first think of what brings you great joy and happiness.  Then “feel it” with all your being.  It is in the feeling of our thoughts and feelings that they manifest themselves into reality.

Here, I believe you are meant or destined for a career or presence in the arts.  There is a strong affinity to painting, galleries, receptions, and flowers.  Follow these passions earnestly and they will lead you to a peaceful, and successful life in far greater terms than the limited definition utilized today.

You will also need to surrender your defiance to taking pharmaceutical drug(s) that assist in your stabilization.  There is no dishonor or embarrassment in receiving this beneficial assistance.  Far from that perception, it allows you to be a more whole and complete you, and by doing so, both you and those around you gain the gift of your true talents and brilliance, your true love and compassion.

Spin the thread upon which you hang into a spool of great successes.  You and the Universe will be thrilled you did.
