Struggling With Bipolar Disorder

DearJames,

My boyfriend and I are on again off again. It’s my fault it’s this way, as I have talked to other men in the past. I don’t know why I do it because I love my boyfriend. I struggle with bipolar disorder. I don’t want to lose him. I’m also in a dead-end job, waitressing in a small town, 42-years old, and struggle daily with money.

Dear Struggling With Bipolar Disorder,

Mental Health & Wellness is a serious matter that affects millions worldwide. Diagnosing, treating, and managing chemical, neurological imbalances can be complex, requiring great acuity on behalf of both the patient and medical providers.

Undiagnosed and/or left untreated, disorders like bipolar disorder can be immensely debilitating, wreaking unintended havoc on yourself and others. It can lead to erratic, unintended, behavior, mood swings, depression, immobilization, fear, the list goes on.

With all due deference, you need to investigate the treatment options available to you in your local area, county, and state. Do not let the lack of finances or health insurance keep you from receiving proper care and treatment.

All too often, individuals are suffering in silence because they lack the means to pay for the necessary diagnostic, preventative, and ongoing treatment and care they so desperately require. There are non-profit or not-for-profit organizations, clinics and County, State, and Federally administered programs and facilities available to assist you. However, you must be willing to do the legwork to discover their existence and then commit to walking the path to wellness and recovery.

By taking these steps, the man in your life will see that you are serious about your mental health and overall wellbeing. Your actions will speak louder than your words, and in time the “new you” will shine.

Everyone deserves a second chance, just be willing to demonstrate that yours is based on self-responsibility and accountability. Once you’ve addressed the underlying cause of your mental health and behavioral issues, a happier, more stable, and resilient you will emerge.

A you that not only you will come to trust, love, and depend on, but so too will others. The skies the limit, and that dead-end job, waitressing in a small town, will either be a distant dream or the job of your dreams. You won’t really know for certain until all is well and balanced within.

Make this commitment of wellness and recovery to yourself, knowing a legion of angels and the Unseen are right there with you every step of the way.
