Instant Satisfaction

DearJames,

What to do when I need to make better $ choices, but choose instant satisfaction instead of delayed satisfaction?

BJ

Dear Instant Satisfaction,

STOP and PIVOT every time the urge to splurge plunges its hand into your pocket. All matter of addictions has plagued humanity since the beginning of time. Instant satisfaction over delayed satisfaction, at the expense of your monetary wellbeing, is but one of many in existence.

Like all addictions, whether mild or extreme, they masque the underlying issues that really require your attention. The act of spending to satisfy the urgent feelings you find yourself having are simply superficial actions scratching at the surface.

Deeper in is where the real culprit lies and that is where you’ll need to focus if you are to overcome the addictive actions and their repetitive nature. The need to feel admired or impress others lies at the heart of this behavior just as an overall dissatisfaction with life and the status quo does.

Self-worth, self-value, and a longing to have, be, and attain more is also at play. There’s a belief system inside of you that says, “if I don’t get it now, I won’t be xyz.”

That list of won’t be is long, toxic, and detrimental.

To change your belief system, you must be willing to challenge the underlying beliefs it is built upon. You’ll want to realize that true self-value, worth, and love are based upon the quality of your inner being and not something you can purchase…with external instant gratification.

People that surround themselves around you, based upon what you can purchase, are also transient and temporary in nature. Those that seek your presence for no other reason than the quality of your company is eternal.

The latter may take more effort, honesty, and time; however, most great things of substance and quality usually do. Dig deep for that inner strength of character that resides within you.

Again, STOP and PIVOT every time the urge to splurge rears its head until the new you becomes second nature. Satisfaction in life, instant, delayed or otherwise, then becomes satisfying because it is founded on a firm foundation of self and not a purchase.

You’re playing the long game here, so dive into the eternal wealth that is your soul.
