In A Situation

DearJames,

I’m in a situation where my adult son with mental health issues lives at home. My parents are chronically Ill and are potentially in need of care. I am uncertain what is going on with my own health, and I also have young children to care for.

I am extremely concerned about this situation. Will there be changes in my household? Will I be able to maintain their care? Will I be moving?

Dear In A Situation,

You are indeed “in a situation” and inevitably change will come knocking.

Of course, you need not worry, fuss, or stress about this change unless you believe those behaviors to be of benefit.

Change is a natural part of our lives and in fact is one of a handful of guarantees life guarantees us.

The secret is in willingly flowing with change as opposed to fighting against it.

To quote Leo Buscaglia “Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.”

When your parents require care beyond your capabilities, be willing to do what is in your and their best interests.

Should that mean moving either or both into a long-term care facility or hospice, act proactively to ensure the chosen facility meets the standard level of care and amenities you desire.

This act alone will create change within your personal lives and home.

Caring for everyone you’ve mentioned is nearly impossible to do without assistance, and adaptability on the part of all involved.

The more fluid, and adaptable you are the better your overall health and stability will be.

Stress, strain, worry, and exhaustion wreak havoc on your physical and mental wellbeing.

The amount of care you are single-handedly providing is unsustainable.

You need help and assistance now and you need to place your monetary fears aside to allow that help in.

No one person is an island unto themselves any more than they can carry the weight of the world solely upon their shoulders.

In regard to the secrets you are holding or attempting to conceal, know these too become subject to the winds and whims of change.

You have done a masterful job up to this point; however, all things do eventually surface, it’s simply a matter of time.

The greater lesson here is conformity to inherent natural laws and rhythms as opposed to denial of their existence and manipulation of the same.

Simply put, the more you embrace change now, before change comes knocking, the easier this will be for everyone involved.

And yes, a move is in the cards, on multiple levels, just as sure as one of a physical nature is headed your way.

EMBRACE CHANGE!
