Frustrated Flip-Flopper

DearJames,

I’m not understanding why, at the age of 45 (and a half), that I’m still going from one soul-sucking job to another. Sure, I’ve been told that I have a so-called gift of writing (apparently due to that virgo-sun-virgo-rising-gemini-at-the-top-of-the-chart-and-mercury-in-libra-in-my-second-house business). Still, I’ve never been able to grasp the concept of being able to support myself as a writer, let alone justify telling other people how to be inspired when I can’t seem to inspire myself. So, I just quit my 3rd job in the last 13 months because although I thought the money is what I wanted from them, it appears not to be the case. My husband is losing patience with this restless energy of mine, but so am I. Does spirit happen to have an “inside scoop” as to what in the world is going on here?

Dear Frustrated Flip-Flopper,

Identity Crisis 101 is the course you’ve been taking for quite some time and the problem is…you’ve mastered the class.  You’ve perfected it so well you are now Dean of Studies and are offering advanced courses with early enrollment for the fall.

And fall you will, if you continue on this path.  There is so much anxiety tied up inside your head about what you think you are supposed to be, that you’ve forgotten all together how to just BE.

Your talents are vast and varied, and therein lies part of the problem.  You are constantly “in your head,” bouncing from one idea, thought or interest to another; never quite quenching your thirst or appetite before you distract yourself with yet another idea, thought or interest.

You need to SLOW DOWN and give yourself permission to just BE.  Virgo’s are notorious for being internally harder on themselves than anyone could ever be externally.  And with a double whammy of Virgo (Sun & Rising sign) in your birth chart, you are doubly susceptible to self-sabotage.

Most times you stop before you start, because that is the “coping beast” you’ve taught yourself as a means of survival.  Of course it’s just that survival, not real living.  In order to experience life fully, wholly, peacefully, you’re going to need to surrender and get comfortable with life being imperfect.

As a fellow Virgo with a Gemini rising, I promise you the world will not fall apart if you surrender any more than it will cease to exist by embracing imperfection in you, your world and the world around you.  By relaxing into life you allow the true you to emerge, rendering the you, you created to control all of life’s happenings, obsolete.

In order to support yourself as a writer, you have to write from the heart/soul, not from a manufactured script of expectations or topics you thought were what people wanted to hear.  You have to be raw, vulnerable and exposed; you have to be “real.”

And in order to be real, you have to let go, free-fall, and fall in love with the real you…the inner you.  The more you surrender and make room for her to emerge, the more magical your life and its experiences will become.

So worry not about your husband’s impatience or your current inability to inspire or be inspired.  Once the new you emerges, the end result will speak for itself, and that will be most inspiring.  And the money flowing to you because of it will be the added bonus from the Universe.

Simply stated, you’ll find your way, by finding your authentic self first.

DearJames,

If I didn’t know any better, I would have suspected that you’ve been reading my journal!

Lately I’ve been mining it for anything that might stand out as something I need to pay attention to. Sure enough, phrases like “raw,” “being real and authentic,” “being unashamed of my vulnerabilities” have been the overriding themes that kept cropping up.

Then I listen to your show on March 13th where you are giving us permission to SURRENDER. You let us know that to surrender is to be EMPOWERED! Thank you so much for that, and for letting me know that it’s safe to be my raw, authentic self.

I’m so grateful to you and the gift of your message. I especially appreciate you for sharing your story on the air. Your radio show is a timely and much needed beacon of light for those of us who are still on the fence, so to speak.

Thank you so much for your kind and accurate counsel. Many Blessings to you!
