GIVE IT TIME
- MOVE/RELOCATION
- LIFE DIRECTION/PURPOSE
- SELF-VALUE/WORTH/CONFIDENCE
DearJames,
It’s clear that the old does not work anymore and yet the new has not showed itself. After 30 years in Poland and 19 in the UK I feel it’s time for change. I started visiting Portugal and like the energy there but don’t know the language and the economy is not great. I’m scared of isolation and loneliness if I stay where I am but not really happy. Can you help?
BB
Dear Give It Time,
The old expression “give it time” is appropriate. Anytime we venture beyond our comfort zone, beyond what we “know,” fear appears. It stalks us like a relentless predator, shining a light on all our inner worries and insecurities creating a plethora of mind games and second guessing. “”Give it time” means to be patient and allow a situation to develop or improve naturally, rather than rushing to force a solution or outcome. It implies that some things, like changing feelings or resolving problems, require a period of waiting for things to unfold or for people to have the necessary space to think and act.”
You are where you are because you took a “leap of faith.” You recognized that “the old does not work anymore” and took a step in a futuristic direction. Just because that futuristic step isn’t immediately everything you seek doesn’t mean it isn’t exactly the step you needed. Who you were in Poland is not who you were in the Uk. And thus, the same holds true to who you will become in Portugal. Releasing the past does wonders for the soul. By emptying your vessel, it creates space for the “new you” to flourish.
Can change be scary? Of course it can, until you relax into your new, current surroundings, environment, job, career, dare one say, purpose. Who you were and who you are becoming are two different people. Intricately woven and built upon the past and yet based upon the soul’s desire to soar and transcend any lack or limitation holding it back from achieving its greatest glory. The Master said, “You cannot plant a large tree in a small pot.” And so, it is for you. You are greater – larger than you give yourself credit. And this next – new adventure will open and expand you in ways you never realized you needed. In the process, having relaxed and given yourself permission “To Be,” you become everything you’ve been searching for, in the “blink of an eye.”
Yes, not speaking the native language can be a detriment, however, being vulnerable while committing to learn said new language expands and liberates you. It empowers you by proving to yourself you can master anything you set your heart and mind into. In today’s world of modern technology, there are various apps that offer real-time language translation via Bluetooth earbuds. You can literally understand a native speaking person instantaneously while continuing to learn and speak said new language. Likewise, until you become more confident speaking said new language, there are apps that offer speak-to-translate technology affording you enhanced ease and communication.
Don’t allow fear to overcome you, nor discourage you from pursuing new-found avenues and opportunities. Harness the energy of fear to catapult you forward. In the not-too-distant future is the you you’ve been looking for; do the necessary works to rise up and greet – meet her! She’s already there awaiting your arrival. And while the Portugal economy may not be “great,” that is a two-way street, as it means what you already have and will continue to add to, goes a lot further in Portugal. Never underestimate the soul of a nation whose economy may be depressed but the will of its people is set on success.
The bottom line is commitment. How committed are you to the “new you,” to this next chapter of growth and expansion?
